How to Slip Stitch

The slip stitch (sl st) is another staple crochet stitch, and is the shortest and simplest stitch you can make. Slip stitches are most often used when crocheting in the round to join the end of the round to the first stitch. They can also be used to decrease the height of a row, or to “skip” stitches to get to another area on your project without needing to cut off and reattach your yarn.

Here is how to slip stitch with step-by-step instructions:

1. Looking at the project from the top, this v-shape will be the next stitch. The arrow indicates where the hook will go2. Insert the hook under both loops of the next stitch
3. Yarn over (put the working yarn over the hook) and pull it back through both loops of the stitch to add a loop to your hook4. There should now be two loops on your hook. Pull the first loop all the way through the second loop
5. You should now only have one loop on your hook. This is a slip stitch !!
